Biography
Military
Scott was born and raised in San Diego, California (USA), and he has a lifelong interest in weightlifting. During high school, he excelled in football and wrestling, but at this stage, he had no desire to pursue a professional sports career.
Instead, after finishing high school, Scott joined the United States Marine Corps.
Bodybuilding
Scott earned the nickname “athletic friend” after serving in the US Marine Corps, and as a result, in 1974, he was persuaded to compete in the Mr. San Diego event, a bodybuilding contest.
He had an amazing body thanks to years of military training, and he outclassed his rivals in this amateur contest. To his amazement, the judges gave him the first-place trophy as a result.
In the end, this triumph encouraged Scott to pursue bodybuilding further.
Card Pro
Scott quickly entered his second competition—the 1974 AAU Mr. California—riddled by his success. Scott didn’t let the pressure get to him even though this was his first respectable show.
The veteran’s physical development paid off after a year of training; he was able to leave with his second trophy, but that wasn’t all he brought home.
By winning the 1974 AAU Mr. California contest, Scott received the coveted Pro Card and went on to surpass all expectations by turning pro.
Career in IFBB
Scott Wilson had a distinguished career as an IFBB Pro athlete between 1980 and 1988, competing against the top bodybuilders of the time and adding two more titles to his trophy case.
Scott, however, decided to end his profession as a competitive bodybuilder in 1988 after a career spanning two decades.
Back to Masters Olympia Mr.
Scott found the drive to return to the stage in the Masters Mr. Olympia, competing against people like Robby Robinson and Lou Ferrigno, despite feeling unable to compete with the younger athletes.
As an older athlete, the veteran wasn’t able to win additional medals, but he still competed well between 1994 and 2000; his best finish during this period was eighth in the 2000 Masters Mr. Olympia.
But in 2000, at the age of 50, Scott decided to put his boots away.
What Scott Wilson Can Teach Us?
We may learn to always keep an open mind from Scott’s narrative, among other things.
