I’m going to tell it as it is. I’m hungry just looking at this recipe. These delightfully seasoned shrimp are nicely cooked in the air fryer, and it’s the perfect easy lunch or dinner when teamed with the creamy, spicy return sauce.

It’s quick and easy to make, but it’s tasty enough to serve as an appetizer at a party.

What Gives This Recipe Its Flavour?

For the shrimp, prepare as follows:

Garlic powder — Garlic powder provides a lovely, garlicky taste to the shrimp without being overbearing. It’s not as strong as fresh garlic, but it’s sweeter.

Paprika — Made from ground peppers, paprika gives the shrimp a spicy flavor. The flavor of paprika can be moderately sweet, smoky, or spicy, depending on which variety you use.

Olive oil — Olive oil provides a peppery, olive taste to the shrimp while keeping them wet in the air fryer.

Combine the following ingredients in a small mixing bowl to make the comeback sauce.

Mayonnaise – Mayonnaise is a simple sauce base that adds creaminess without overwhelming the other ingredients.

Ketchup — Adds a hint of sweetness and aids in the coloration of the sauce.

Here comes the heat with hot sauce! In our return sauce, we used Texas Pete, but you may use any hot sauce you choose, depending on how spicy you like it.

Horseradish – Spicy and peppery, horseradish is a sensation that opens up the sinuses rather than burning your mouth.

Garlic powder and black pepper — A simple ingredient that offers just a hint of taste without overpowering the other flavors.

Chef’s Advice

  • Depending on your air fryer and the size of the shrimp, your shrimp may cook differently. My shrimp were 15-17 inches long and took 7 minutes to cook.
  • I like to preheat the air fryer because as the shrimp reach the basket, they immediately begin cooking at high heat. You may not need to preheat your air fryer if it heats up rapidly.
  • You can cook your shrimp in a skillet on the stove if you don’t have an air fryer. In a big skillet, heat a little oil until it shimmers. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on one side, or until the shrimp is pink and no longer opaque. Cook on the other side with a pair of tongs.
