Environmentalists and diet experts are advocating a vegan diet. But TV star, Bear Grylls, 48 is against it. The British explorer from London claims that his health worsened when he adopted a vegan lifestyle.
Now, he eats whatever he finds in the jungle to survive.
Bear Grylls and his claims against veganism
Meat products, poultry, and agriculture leave a lot of carbon footprints. This is affecting the climate and leading to global warming.
Dietitians and environment experts are urging people to minimize meat in their foods. This is to save the environment as well as for health reasons. They are advocating for people to eat plant-based foods.
TV star and explorer, Bear Grylls whose real name is Edward Michael Grylls is popular for his shows Man vs. Wild, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, and The Island with Bear Grylls.
He is 48 now and eats whatever he finds in the jungles to subsist. In the shows, he is seen exploring new wild areas and consuming what he feels is nutritious and tasty.
He consumes insects and wildlife. He used to propagate veganism in the past. But now he confesses that he is against vegetables.
More on his anti-vegan claims
This change of opinion is after he contracted covid 19. At that time, he was on a vegan diet. But it halted his recovery.
Earlier, he was so much of an advocate for veganism that he even penned a book on it called Fuel for Life. This book includes some recipes for vegetarian dishes.
But in an interview with GQ magazine, Bear revealed that he no more eats vegetables or nuts. But he has now become meat-oriented as regards food.
He said:
‘Super against nuts, and against grains, wheat, and vegetables – they affected my health negatively. I was a massive advocate of the vegan lifestyle for years, and wrote a book on it, but my health tanked on it,’
Explaining further, he said:
“When I got COVID a couple years ago, I doubled down on what I thought was healthy—raw juice, vegetables—and got mega-sore kidneys, almost kidney stones.”
What is Bear’s diet now?
Bear’s current diet is sans vegetables. He said:
“The more research I’ve done, I’ve noticed raw vegetables are really not good for you, so I’ve started incorporating quality grass-fed steak and liver.”
He added that he now enjoys eating. Besides what he eats, when he eats the food also matters to him. For the last two years, he is on intermittent fasting.
He does not have his breakfast. His first meal of the day is at 11 am or 12 noon. But he does regret killing animals in the wild. In 2021, he told BBC Radio 4:
“Definitely in the early days we were killing way too many snakes and stuff like that in the name of survival.”
