Beginnings Of Bodybuilding, Gym
Diogo Montenegro, a Brazilian citizen who was born in Rio de Janeiro, initially used weights when he was 14 years old.
Diogo wanted to exercise at the gym to develop an aesthetically pleasing and powerful physique, taking inspiration from individuals like Frank McGrath.
As Diogo advanced through the years, bodybuilding expanded from being merely a hobby to something much more. Both his passion for the lifting sport and his physique grew with time.
First Competitions, Bodybuilding
Diogo pursued his desire to compete in bodybuilding in 2012, going even further with his enthusiasm for the sport. At his first competition, the Rio Expo Nutrition, he took first place.
Diogo was inspired to continue participating and pick up more awards after his early success. He had already won the Pro Card by 2014, and things only improved from there.
Life As A Pro for Diogo, Bodybuilder
Diogo made his professional debut in the Prestige Crystal Cup in 2015. He impressively finished first that day.
Diogo, however, not only took home the top prize but also earned a spot in the Mr. Olympia competition that year. Diogo decided to participate in the competition as a Men’s Physique athlete since he has always valued appearance over the size of the muscles.
In the end, Diogo placed 16th at the 2015 Olympia. As an amateur bodybuilder, he frequently won first-place prizes, but the professional circuit proved to be a far greater challenge.
Keeping The First-Place Trophy, Olympia
Diogo began the year 2016 by placing in the top 5 at the IFBB Europa Orlando Pro. He finished eighth in the next competition, the IFBB Pittsburgh Pro.
Just a few weeks later, Diogo successfully defended his IFBB Prestige Cup Champion title from the previous year. He was so once more qualified for the Olympia.
However, Diogo had one more competition coming up before Olympia: the IFBB Tampa Pro. After several weeks of diligent practice, he was able to place third in the competition.
Finally, Diogo competed at Mr. Olympia in September 2016 while competing against some of the best bodies in the world. He ultimately came in 16th position, failing to rank in the top 10 of the competition.
Later Competitions
Diogo finished first at the Europa Orlando in 2017, which allowed him to qualify for the Mr. Olympia that same year. At the Olympia, however, Diogo’s performance was the same as always; he was able to place only 16th.
Nevertheless, Diogo wasn’t deterred. He used these losses as “fuel” to keep getting better and working on himself. He was aware that eventually, he would perform much better at Olympia.
This is exactly what happened when Diogo improved his results by placing 13th at the 2018 Mr. Olympia.
Diogo was pleased to see progress even if this was still a long way from his ultimate goal. He never gives up and maintains a champion mentality as he works tirelessly to achieve his ambitions.
Training, Muscles Lean
Diogo does not adhere to any unique training regimen. Instead, he concentrates on building muscular bulk during the “off-season” by lifting heavily and vigorously.
Then, as the competition date approaches, Diogo begins performing more reps while using lighter weights. In turn, this keeps his muscles lean, tight, and firm for performance.
Skull crushers, lateral lifts, and cable chest cross-overs are among Diogo’s favorite exercises. More so than any other exercises he had attempted, these exercises offer him the most acute burning in his muscles.
“I don’t like to play music while I exercise. Instead, I like to listen before working out. I’m energized for the session by this. Hardcore music, like hardstyle EDM, is my favorite genre.
Nutrition, Protein-Rich Diet
For most of the year, Diogo adheres to a clean, protein-rich diet. He will indulge in a wonderful “cheat meal” every 15 days to refuel.
Diogo consumes the least amount of carbohydrates possible before a competition. At this point, he eliminates all “cheat meals” and junk food. “I don’t eat fast food while I’m training for a competition.” Diago Montenegro

Influences And Idols
Diogo’s quest for success in bodybuilding was launched by encounters with figures like Arnold and Frank Zane. His initial focus was solely on packing on muscle to his lean body.

What Diogo Montenegro Teaches Us?
Above all, Diogo showed us the importance of sticking with your plans until the end.
Diogo’s physique and bodybuilding career were not created in a single training session.
