Describe the Snickerdoodle
A snickerdoodles is a soft, chewy cookie made with cinnamon sugar and cream of tartar that has an attractive cracked top.
These tasty cookies are enhanced with cream of tartar, a by-product of the wine-making process. It can be found in most grocery shops’ spice or baking aisles or online at Amazon.com.
Making Snickerdoodles
Like other cookies, these are manufactured in a conventional manner.
- Butter, sugar, and eggs are blended (recipe below)
- Add the dry ingredients.
- Make balls, then roll in cinnamon sugar.
The snickerdoodles should be baked until the edges barely begin to brown. You don’t want to bake them too long.
You need to find a replacement for the cream of tartar when making snickerdoodles. Some folks advocate using lemon juice or vinegar. Remember that any recipe modifications can affect the cookie’s flavor and texture, just like they can with any baking.
Use 2.5 teaspoons of baking powder in this recipe and omit the baking soda and cream of tartar. Baking soda, cream of tartar, and a small amount of cornstarch are the ingredients in baking powder.
To Make Ahead
Making doodles in advance and freezing them is possible. Prepare as instructed, then thoroughly cool. Place in freezer bags after cooling and freeze for up to 4 months.
