A lovely sauce, crisp and sticky skin (which is optional), and wonderfully cooked chicken. Nothing changes for the better!

With this really easy recipe, you can produce crispy, tender chicken with the ideal, sticky glaze. You might (or might not) recall the delicious crispy oven-fried chicken I prepared a few months back.

Since the sauce on those chicken pieces was so delicious, I began to wonder what would happen if I cooked other pieces of chicken in the sauce alone, without breading or crumbing them beforehand.

Honey Garlic Chicken

Not only does this sauce taste fantastic, but it’s also quite satisfying to watch it boil and change into a perfectly harmonious savory, sweet, and garlicky syrup.

However, when you see the sauce boil all around your chicken and effortlessly coat it, your mouth starts to water.

The benefit of this dish? There is enough sauce left over to sprinkle over some rice or steamed broccoli. It creates a lot of sauce.

Thighs or Breasts of Chicken?

Since the dark flesh is so flavorful and moist, chicken thighs are ideal for this recipe. However, we also enjoy making this recipe with chicken breasts because the sauce is fantastic on them.

What makes this Honey Garlic Chicken so special? You already have EVERY item in your refrigerator, kitchen faucet, and pantry.

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 chicken thighs, bone-in or out, with or without skin*
  • Salt and pepper, to season
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder, to season
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup water (or chicken broth)
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar (or apple cider vinegar, or any white vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Garlic powder, salt, and pepper are used to season the chicken.
  2. Chicken breast or thigh fillets should be seared on both sides until brown and cooked through in a skillet or pan that has been heated to medium-high heat.

FOR BONE-IN THIGHS:

  1. After searing on both sides, lower heat, cover skillet with a lid and simmer until chicken is fully cooked, rotating every five minutes, until done. Alternately, refer to the oven procedure in the notes.
  2. Remove the majority of the extra oil from the pan and squeeze the remaining 2 tablespoons for flavor.

FOR SAUCE:

  1. When the chicken is finished and fully cooked, place it skin-side up in the pan (if using skin-on chicken), add the garlic, and sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds). Add the vinegar, soy sauce, honey, and water. Turn up the heat to medium-high, then continue to boil the sauce until it slightly thickens (about 3-4 minutes).
  2. Serve with parsley garnish and a salad or over rice, pasta, or veggies.
