What is Dalgona (whipped coffee)?

I am well aware of the current whipped coffee craze that first took over YouTube and then TikTok because I have a 16-year-old.

According to Wikipedia, this beverage first gained notoriety in Korea through a television program and has subsequently gone viral on social media.

Because it resembles the spongy candy known as Algona, which is popular in Korea, whipped coffee is also known as Algona coffee. Even though the candy isn’t in the coffee, the topping resembles it!

Only 3 components

Equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water are used to make creamed coffee. Everything is beaten until creamy before being topped with milk.

IMMEDIATE COFFEE

Try flavor-infused coffee crystals or instant espresso instead. You can even use decaf instant coffee to create this!

SUGAR

It gives this topping a little amount of sweetness. This recipe also works with sweeteners.

WATER

Water should be extremely hot—almost boiling.

Making Whipped Coffee

In just 3 easy actions, you can have a cup of coffee!

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine equal portions of hot water, sugar, and instant coffee. Beat till creamy and thick.
  2. In mugs or glasses, pour hot (or cold) milk.
  3. Serve after adding creamed coffee on top.

Add optional garnishes such as cinnamon, cardamom, coarse sugar, cocoa powder, or sugar.

Serving and Alterations

This recipe works nicely with milk substitutes as well. The longer the whipped coffee froth floats on top, the thicker the milk must be!

This can be served warm, cold, or even on top of a dessert (how about some chocolate cake?).

We enjoy flavoring milk (whether it contains sugar or not) with syrups. Try putting some syrup in the milk, like vanilla, caramel, coconut, or mocha.

When served in a clear glass so you can see the foamy coffee rest delicately on top of the milk, it is such a pleasant, quick little afternoon pick-me-up and it looks so nice.

Tips to Remember

It’s crucial to use precise measurements to create a good, heavy foam for the first phase.

Continue working even if the coffee foam doesn’t appear to be adequately peaking. For lower amounts of Dalgona coffee, a small tabletop blender like a Ninja or Magic Bullet can be more effective.

Don’t forget that you may freeze this thick whipped coffee foam by dropping dollops of it on parchment paper. After that, simply plop one atop hot or cold milk whenever the craving for Dalgona coffee comes!
