There are innumerable tests that are available offline or online to know about and evaluate ourself. It can be our intelligence testing or personality testing or luck testing or future prediction. The list is endless. And to add to this long list is another test called the Food disgust test. What is this test? How do you interpret it?
Various self-tests
Humans have so many facets and each can be tested. Accordingly, there are so many tests that scientists have conceived, created and developed to know about oneself better. The tests can be self-administered or by another person.
The list of these tests is long and includes IQ testing, personality tests, mood tests, emotional liability tests etc. They are to assess and monitor yourself without or with treatment. They also help in social adaptations and improvement of self.
To add to this lengthy list comes the food disgust test. Christina Hartmann and Michael Siegrist at the Technical University of Zurich created this test. They realized that people’s reactions to foods can be split into 8 categories.
The 8 categories of the test
Animal flesh
The first category is animal flesh. People including meat eaters feel disgust at the not eaten parts of the animals such as jaws, snouts, tail etc. It could also include smell of flesh cooking and sight of animal features.
Hygiene of food
People feel disgusted if the area around, food preparation method or the food is unhygienic. Dirty and stained plates tend to put off many people from eating at a place.
Human contamination
Sharing utensils, bowls, cutlery or food can be another area of disgust. Many people do not like it if other people touch their food or plate of food. This tendency might have increased after the pandemic.
Mould
The Food Standards Agency advises people to not consume moldy foods. Those who demonstrate disgust for mold avoid it and have no risk of illnesses due to it. These people feel nauseated on knowing that they ate a moldy food item or even on seeing foods like blue cheese that has taste-enhancing mold in it.
Decaying fruit and vegetable
These can be a source of disgust for many. Discoloration, black or brown spots on them, softness, or any damage marks or scars seem to disgust many people.
Fish
Some people have disgust for fish. Eating raw fish such as in sushi and even smell of fish nauseates them.
Insect contaminants
These people get disgusted at the thought or sight of worms, insects or bugs in foods. Their appetite goes low even on seeing a bug while eating.

Response of social media users
The social media users are busy doing the test and putting their scores on their accounts for everyone to see. The results are varied and range from low (eating anything) to high (highly repulsive). In the test, the person has to answer 32 questions about food disgust. They have to answer from strongly agree to disagree strongly.

At the end, they understand which food disgusts them the most. And also they know their food disgust score. A Twitter first shared the test link and soon it went viral on it. The user wrote:
“ten thousand times more fun than the Myers-Briggs test.”
This encouraged others to follow the link and test their own food disgust scores. People started competing to get the lowest score. The original poster revealed that the lowest score was 14.8%.
